Higlights: Brasileirão Série A 2010 - round 35

Ronaldo scored the winning goal against Cruzeiro.
The most anticipated fixture of the 35th round was the clash between 2nd and 3rd placed sides Corinthians and Cruzeiro. The game ended 1-0 to Corinthians after the referee awarded them a highly controversial penalty for a supposed foul on Ronaldo which he scored himself. The result was extremely harsh on Cruzeiro who were the better team for most of the game and are now as good as out of the championship race thanks to a debatable refereeing decision.

On Sunday Fluminense dropped 2 points against Goiás in a 1-1 draw to leave Corinthians as the stand alone leaders. Despite getting a good away point against one of the best teams in the division Goiás are in serious truble 7 points from safety with only 3 games remaining. The reason that they are in so much trouble is that the 4 teams above them all got points too.

Atlético Mineiro got over their elimination from Copa Sudamericana in midweek to hammer Flamengo 4-1 and jump clear of the relegation zone. Flamengo are now without a win in five games and in real danger of getting dragged into the relegation fight. Avaí are still in the relegation zone but a 2-3 away win against Internacional has kept them within 2 points of the safety line. Vitória and Guaraní drew 1-1, a result that keeps them both embroiled in the relegation battle. Atlético Goianiense also moved away from the drop zone with an impressive 3-0 win against Palmeiras.

The first game of the 35th round actually took place on Wednesday night in front of a virtually empty stadium in Fortaleza. The Ceará fans that didn't bother to show up missed a quality game of football featuring an absolute bombaso of a goal from Geraldo for the home team and two more goals for Uruguayan international journeyman striker Sebastián Abreu for Botafogo in a 2-2 draw. Botofogo dropped 2 points in the chase for the last Copa Libertadores spot but two of their rivals also dropped points after Santos and Grêmio could only manage a 0-0 draw. On Sunday Atlético Paranaense moved into the last Copa Libertadores position with a 2-1 win against Grêmio Prudente who are the first team to be officially relegated.

The only remaining game was a 1-1 draw between mid table sides Vasco da Gama and São Paulo. neither side really has anything to play for and the game ended 1-1.
